The bi-annual Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Foundation’s Carousel Ball began when American Bandstand premiered and gasoline was 24 cents per gallon. It’s one of the Philadelphia region’s oldest and most prestigious social fund-raising events, with more than 650 people enjoying a spectacular black-tie event while advancing designated healthcare charities. Like a large-scale wedding, each ball requires years of preparation and all of the printed materials that accompany it such as save-the-date cards, invitations, sponsorship solicitations, envelopes, a program book and today, of course, a website. For the 2011 ball, M&P worked for a full year on multiple pieces, infusing a nearly half-century old event with a fresh and vibrant graphic identity. The theme graphic developed by M&P evokes the blurred lights of a spinning carousel. Of course, cost is an issue for any charitable event. So we packed in all the tricks of our trade to keep costs down and quality high.
